FL-41 Lenses β The Complete Guide
What FL-41 lenses are, how they work, who they help, and how to choose the right options. Built for humans, structured for Google & AI.
What is FL-41?
FL-41 is a rose-tinted lens designed to reduce sensitivity to light (photophobia) by filtering blue-green wavelengths. It emerged from research in the 1980sβ90s and is used worldwide to help people with migraine, photophobia, and neurological conditions.
Who can it help?
- Migraine (including vestibular)
- Photophobia / chronic light sensitivity
- Blepharospasm
- Post-concussion / TBI
- Visual snow
- Screen glare sensitivity
How does it work?
FL-41 lenses reduce transmission of a slice of the spectrum (~480β520 nm) associated with light-triggered discomfort. This can lower neural activation linked to migraines and sensitivity.
Lens options
- Tint density: Light / Medium / Dark
- Coatings: Everyday or Easy Life
- Light-reactive: Optional Transitions upgrade
- Thinner lenses: 1.6 or 1.67 index
- Prescription: Single vision or varifocal
Why custom matters vs ready-made
- Fit: Your chosen Peep frame or your own β never a βone-sizeβ guess.
- Prescription: Non-prescription, single-vision, or varifocal.
- Options: Coatings, thinner lenses, light-reactive β tailored to you.
- Comfort: Lenses cut precisely to your frame, not bulk stock.
Most online shops sell FL-41 as ready-made frames. Peep is different: we custom-glaze genuine FL-41 lenses into the frames you actually want to wear.

Evidence snapshot
Research and clinical reports suggest FL-41 can reduce light-triggered discomfort in multiple conditions. Response varies by person β thatβs why we encourage real-world testing.
Highlights from the literature
- Migraine: Studies report reduced headache frequency and severity with FL-41 vs neutral tints in light-sensitive patients.
- Blepharospasm: Patients wearing FL-41 showed fewer spasms and improved light tolerance compared with grey lenses.
- Children & visual migraine variants: University groups reported symptom improvements and better quality of life with FL-41 wear.
- Post-concussion (TBI): Emerging evidence and clinic experience indicate FL-41 may ease photophobia and fatigue; larger trials are ongoing.
Bottom line FL-41 isnβt a cure, but for many people itβs a simple, drug-free tool that makes bright environments more tolerable.

FAQs
Are these ready-made glasses or fully custom?
Fully custom. We glaze genuine FL-41 lenses into your chosen Peep frame β or your own β with your prescription if needed, plus coatings, thinning, and light-reactive options.
Can I get FL-41 glasses in Derby?
Yes. We serve Derby & Derbyshire and ship UK-wide. You can also post your own frames to us for glazing.
Do I need to visit in person?
No β most orders are handled online and by post. Being nearby in the East Midlands simply means support is close if needed.
What is FL-41 and how does it work?
FL-41 is a rose-tinted optical filter that reduces parts of the blue-green spectrum often linked with light-triggered discomfort. Many people report improved comfort under LEDs/fluorescents and on screens, though responses vary.
Is FL-41 the same as blue-light glasses?
No. Generic blue-light glasses usually filter broadly at shorter wavelengths. FL-41 targets a narrower band associated with photophobia discomfort and often feels more comfortable in modern indoor lighting.
Who can FL-41 help?
People with light sensitivity from migraine (including vestibular), post-concussion/TBI, blepharospasm, visual snow, screen glare, or general LED/fluorescent intolerance. It doesnβt help everyone, so real-world testing is important.
Can I wear FL-41 all day?
Many people do, especially at work or on screens. If colours feel too warm or your tasks are colour-critical, consider a lighter indoor pair and a darker pair for harsh lighting.
Does FL-41 help on computers and phones?
Often, yes. FL-41 can reduce screen harshness that triggers discomfort. A light-to-medium density is the typical starting point for indoor screen use.
Is FL-41 suitable for night driving?
Use with caution. Any tint reduces overall light reaching the eye and can increase reflections at night. Most users limit FL-41 to daytime driving. Test carefully and follow clinician guidance.
What tint strength should I choose?
LightβMedium: for screens and indoor LEDs. Dark: strong fluorescents or bright outdoor situations. Most people start with Medium indoors.
Can I get FL-41 with my prescription?
Yes β single-vision and varifocals are available, with optional thinner indices (1.6 / 1.67) and anti-reflective coatings.
Can you fit FL-41 into my own frames?
Yes. As part of Peepβs Community Feedback Programme (CFP), fitting into your own frame is Β£30. Prefer not to join? You can buy FL-41 lenses directly in our shop.
What coatings or upgrades are available?
Everyday or Easy Life anti-reflective coatings, thinner lenses (1.6 / 1.67), light-reactive (Transitions), and varifocal options. Higher index lenses require a coating.
How much do FL-41 lenses cost at Peep?
With a Peep frame via the CFP: lenses included (normally Β£70). In your own frame via CFP: Β£30. If you prefer not to join, you can buy lenses directly in the shop at standard pricing.
How long does it take to adapt?
Most people adapt within a few days. Colours look slightly rosier; this usually becomes βnormalβ quickly. If colour-critical work is required, choose a lighter density indoors.
Will FL-41 change how colours look?
Yesβthings look warmer/rosier. That shift is expected and part of how the filter works. Light density keeps the shift subtle; Medium is most popular for indoor comfort.
Is there scientific evidence for FL-41?
Multiple studies and clinical reports suggest FL-41 can reduce photophobia-related symptoms in migraine, blepharospasm, and other conditions. Individual results vary; we encourage trying lenses in your own environments.
Will FL-41 cure my migraines?
No. FL-41 isnβt a cure. Many users report fewer or milder light-triggered symptoms, but migraine has many causes. Use FL-41 alongside your clinicianβs guidance.
Is FL-41 helpful after concussion (TBI)?
Many post-concussion patients report improved comfort under bright or flickering light. Responses vary; consider starting with a lighter density for indoor use.
Does FL-41 help with blepharospasm or visual snow?
Some people with blepharospasm report reduced spasms versus neutral tints. Visual snow users often report improved comfort in harsh lighting. Results are individual.
Any downsides or side effects?
The main trade-off is colour shift and reduced overall light (more noticeable at night). Some tasks that demand exact colour perception may be better with a lighter density.
How do I clean and look after FL-41 lenses?
Rinse with lukewarm water, then use lens spray or mild soap and a clean microfibre cloth. Avoid paper towels and harsh chemicals. Coated lenses stay clearer with gentle care.
Do I need to complete surveys if I join the CFP?
Yesβshort check-ins at 1, 3, 6 & 12 months. You keep your glasses; your feedback helps others decide if FL-41 is right for them.
