Solder repair – FAQs
What types of metal glasses can you solder?
We can often repair common breaks on metal frames — such as bridges, rims, lugs and hinge areas. Suitability depends on the metal type, thickness, and how stressed the joint is. If you share photos via the Check-In Form, we’ll confirm what’s realistic before you post them in.
Can titanium glasses be repaired?
Sometimes — titanium varies a lot by alloy and construction. If it’s feasible, we use titanium-compatible techniques, but some breaks may not be safe to repair. Share photos and we’ll confirm first.
Is solder repair strong — will it last?
A well-executed repair can be very strong, but longevity depends on the original damage and the stress that area takes in daily wear. We align and tension-set the frame after repair, and we’ll be honest if a break is likely to be short-lived or risky.
Will the repair be visible?
A small colour shift near the joint is normal. If you’d like, add Metal Frame Touch-Up for a neater finish.
What if solder isn’t suitable?
If a safe result isn’t possible, we’ll recommend alternatives such as bonded repair options or (where needed) discuss longer-term solutions such as a handmade frame.
